About the Artist

Amanda is a 3rd generation Texas artist living in Buda, just outside of Austin. She has interned with the Dallas Museum of Art, assisted studio artists in the Dallas Arts District, and is currently a co-admin for AcoustiCanvas Art Collective in Austin. Her work has been displayed in the Texas State Capital building, the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Art Outside Gallery, as well as performing as a live painter at the Art Outside Festivals, and was most recently on view at ART on 5th Gallery for the 2017 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series. She continues to participate in Life Drawing events and workshops, with focus on supporting the underground performing community via the Austin chapter of Dr. Sketchy’s. Illustrative masters Frank Frazetta, Julie Bell, and Brian Froud influenced her style early on, and continue to be a source of inspiration.

Artist Statement:

Using the human form as the catalyst for most of the stories I tell, and leaning on my love for mythology; my current body of work aims to explore what it means to be human. Expressive application of white, gray and black help to form the central figures; an attempt to highlight the figure as a vehicle for conversation. The addition of bold colors woven into the composition; as a means of directing the tone and highlighting how color has been used historically to elicit specific interpretations. I have recently begun a self portrait series in the same focus, and through the lens of ritual as a means to work through my own myths. I’m looking for a balance between extremes… and asking a lot of questions along the way.
